Insight – South Kensington Club

SKC offers its members a classic country club experience with inspiring fitness, social and bathhouse spaces to keep fit and well, all in a relaxed homey setting.
Originally built as the Georgian-era Queens Gate Music Hall in the late 1800s, the South Kensington Club’s main building on Harrington Road went on to house the Pineapple Dance Studios, and later Rolling Stones Ronnie Wood’s infamous Harrington Club. The rear of the property extends into Queensberry Mews via its now-adjoined bathhouse which was once the studio and home of artist Francis Bacon. Guests can access via either entrance; the Mews entrance being more private with direct access to the gym and wellness facilities and the main entrance on Harrington Road.
The elegant, homely environment of the South Kensington Club’s interior has been thoughtfully executed to provide a place for reflection, relaxation and respite for its guests. The Club has been designed with its members every desire in mind. From the cultural and culinary, to the physical and philosophical, they have access to the best services, including exclusive social and travel opportunities as well as a pioneering centre for fitness and well-being. Whether you are visiting for a cocktail, taking a dip in the salt-water Watsu Pool, seeking a moment of calm in the bathhouse or inspiration from the Voyager Programme the South Kensington Club offers excellence in every field.
The innovative Voyager Programme at South Kensington Club is designed to encourage club members to push boundaries, open their minds, do something different with their time – or simply feel inspired. Led by artic-adventurer Christina Franco, the Club organises unforgettable voyages and helps members prepare for bucket-list expeditions. Destinations are inspired by monthly themes, which are presented through dinner parties, speaker events and practical workshops with experts – explorers, pioneers and inspirational speakers.
For dining, The Club Restaurant accommodates members and guests from breakfast through to dinner. Its menu is founded on the culinary principles of a healthy Mediterranean diet; prioritising the freshest produce for both flavour and outstanding nutritional benefits.
The South Kensington Club provides unparalleled fitness and well-being facilities. SKC’s three studios provide an ideal environment for yoga, hot yoga, Pilates, barre, hot barre, HIIT classes and kickboxing as well as private fitness assessments. The first floor fitness studios also include personal and functional training areas. Leading trainers are on hand to assist members, explain how to use the machines in the safest and most effective way, create fitness initiatives and give personalised one-to-one sessions to those who require it.
To relax, the Club’s bathhouse offers Banyas and Hammams, as well as private Banya suites complete with plunge pools. Private therapy rooms and suites allow members to indulge in their treatment of choice. The South Kensington Club is also home to the “grotta” London’s most beautiful saltwater Watsu pool, allowing members to integrate the primordial element of the sea into their daily workouts. The aim is to always feel good and to learn to include fitness and wellbeing in our everyday busy lives.
